The lobby is a gateway to elegance, marking America's longest operating hotel. Embellished with ceiling murals and 24-karat gold candelabras, the restoration, overseen by husband and wife Kartsonas, includes their contributions to the U.S. Capitol. Destroyed in the 1871 Chicago Fire, the original hotel was replaced by the current building in the 1920s.
